Bauhaus Warranty Policy
At Bauhaus, we stand behind the quality and craftsmanship of every piece we offer. As a New Zealand–owned, family business, we take pride in delivering furniture and homeware that’s built to last and designed to be enjoyed for years to come.
This Warranty Policy operates in addition to your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA) and the Fair Trading Act 1986.
1. Warranty Coverage
Bauhaus furniture is covered by the following manufacturer’s warranties from the date of dispatch or delivery:
- Sofas and Furniture (excluding upholstery):
5-year warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. - Sofa Frames:
10-year warranty against structural defects. - Upholstery, Lighting, Accessories, and Homeware:
2-year warranty against manufacturing defects (unless otherwise stated at time of purchase).
Upholstery fabrics and leathers are covered by the original manufacturer’s warranty, as performance and appearance may vary with use and environmental conditions.
For the purposes of this warranty, “structural frame” means the main timber or metal internal frame of sofas and furniture items. “Non-structural components” include finishes, coverings, cushions, mechanisms, and accessories.
These warranties apply only to residential use and to products that have been cared for in line with their care instructions.
2. Exclusions
The warranty does not cover:
- Normal wear and tear, fading, or stretching.
- Natural variations in colour, texture, or grain of materials such as timber, stone, leather, or fabric.
- Movement or minor cracking of timber due to humidity or temperature changes.
- Damage from misuse, improper care, accidents, abnormal use, or unauthorised repairs.
- Rust, corrosion, or deterioration caused by water, heat, sunlight, or exposure to weather.
- Painted, lacquered, or coated surfaces are covered for manufacturing defects such as cracking, peeling, or poor adhesion. Normal wear and tear — including minor scratches, chips, or colour change from sunlight or cleaning — is not covered.
- Damage caused by fire, smoke, pests, or other external events.
- Commercial, rental, or non-residential use.
- Clearance, ex-showroom, seconds, or damaged items sold “as is”.
- Surface coatings or after-care products, as these rely on the customer’s ongoing maintenance. Seasonal surface changes are not considered defects.
3. Claim Process
If you believe your item has a fault covered under this warranty:
- Contact us within 48 hours of discovering the issue.
- Email: operations@bauhaus.co.nz
- Include your order details, a brief description of the issue, and photos showing the concern.
- Our team will assess the claim and, where appropriate, arrange inspection, repair, replacement, or store credit.
The warranty period begins on the date of dispatch or delivery of the original purchase. Bauhaus will endeavour to repair or replace the item (or relevant component) with the same or equivalent product. If a product or part is no longer available, a comparable alternative or store credit will be offered at Bauhaus’s discretion.
Bauhaus reserves the right to repair or replace any defective item at its discretion.
4. Natural Materials
We celebrate the individuality of natural materials. Each piece is unique — variations in grain, colour, or texture are part of what makes Bauhaus furniture special, not defects.
5. Commitment to Quality
Our furniture is crafted for longevity and comfort. When cared for correctly, Bauhaus pieces are designed to look beautiful and perform well for many years — a true reflection of our promise to deliver the best balance of design, quality, and value in New Zealand.
