We stock five furniture brands, and have said no to many more.

Each one earns its place on our floor: a company that builds sofas properly, a maker whose timber and stone we trust, or a range that continues to feel right once it is in your home. Some of what we sell is designed by us. The rest comes from Beijing, Sydney, Aarhus and Italy, from families and factories we have worked with for years. Here is who they are, how they make their furniture, and what we choose to stock.

Bauhaus Studio

Our own label, designed by us, built to our specification and sold nowhere else.

Bauhaus Studio began with a simple frustration: the sofa we wanted to sell did not exist at a price we believed was fair. So we developed it ourselves. The range now includes more than 150 pieces across sofas, chairs, tables, storage and homeware, and it is the clearest expression of what we think good furniture should cost.

Construction is the point. Madison, for example, combines a high-resilience foam seat with a feather-and-down wrap, making the sit softer than its tailored silhouette suggests. Elsewhere in the range are hand-finished matte-black metal side tables and boucle ottomans with a textural depth flat weaves cannot match. Feather-wrapped cushions settle with use and need regular plumping - the honest trade-off for that level of comfort.

Because it is our own label, we control the specification, fabric options and price. Member's Club members receive 15% off Bauhaus Studio.

Camerich

Chinese design house, founded in 1997. Solid-birch modular sofas with feather-topped seats and extensive configuration options.

Camerich designs, develops and manufactures its own furniture from an R&D campus in Beijing and a factory in Jiaxing. Its design language is simple and refined, helping make it one of the few Chinese furniture brands to exhibit at Maison&Objet in Paris and gain the attention of European buyers.

In the living room, that translates into modularity done properly. Ranges such as Easytime, Elan and Nature are made from modules that connect in place, allowing a three-seater to become a corner configuration when you move house. Frames combine solid birch with MDF and plywood reinforcement and use cross-woven elastic webbing for suspension. Seat cushions pair high-resilience foam with a compartmented feather-and-down top, while back cushions use channelled feather around a foam core. Feather cushions need regular plumping; the comfort makes the upkeep worthwhile.

With more than 90 fabrics and leathers available, a Camerich sofa can be specified for almost any room. That breadth of choice is also why we recommend seeing the range in person.

MCM HOUSE

Australian, founded in 2010. Relaxed, textural furniture made for the way homes are actually lived in.

MCM House was founded in Sydney in 2010 by Charles Hinckfuss, who began by buying and selling antique furniture. That background still shows: the collections play with proportion and period rather than chasing whatever is current, creating furniture that looks settled in a room from day one.

The look is relaxed rather than formal: deep upholstered pieces in washed linens and heavyweight cottons; reclaimed and solid timbers; natural stone; and a quiet colour palette. It sits naturally in New Zealand homes for the same reason it works in Australian ones - informal rooms, strong light, and indoor and outdoor living treated as one.

It is the broadest range we carry, spanning living, dining, bedroom and outdoor. Natural materials vary from piece to piece; with MCM House, that variation is intentional, not a fault.

WHAT WE STOCK

Sofas and modular systems; armchairs and ottomans; dining tables and chairs; coffee and side tables; storage; beds; lighting and homewares.

Wendelbo

Danish and family-run since 1955. Three generations of upholsterers, now manufacturing in Vietnam.

Wendelbo began in Aarhus in 1955, when upholsterer Tage Petersen set out to make custom sofas to traditional standards of craft. The second generation, Christina and Lars Wendelbo, have run the company since 1989, moving the design language forward without compromising how the furniture is made.

Production moved to Saigon in 2007. Christian Wendelbo, the third generation, runs the factory and its 375-plus workforce, with an emphasis on working conditions and social responsibility. It is an unusual arrangement: a Danish family business with the founder's grandson overseeing production in Vietnam. That close involvement helps explain the consistency of the build quality.

The furniture itself is quiet and well-proportioned: Scandinavian design that does not need to announce itself. The brand is carried by selected retailers in more than 25 countries.

WHAT WE STOCK

Sofas and modular seating, lounge chairs, dining chairs, tables and occasional pieces.

TOOU

Italian design at a sensible price. Chairs and stools for indoors and out.

Toou makes designer furniture attainable. It credits every designer by name: Simone Viola for Ta, Holi, Cadrea and Sensu; Sander Mulder for Stellar and Outo; and Yokozeki Ryota for Tomo. Manufacturing at scale keeps pricing accessible.

The range is deliberately versatile: shell chairs and stools for dining rooms, kitchens, cafes and courtyards, with multiple bases and finishes. Several ranges stack, while Outo is rated for outdoor use with UV and water resistance built in.

We turn to Toou when someone needs six dining chairs that will stand up to family life, or project seating where the budget matters and the design still has to be right.

WHAT WE STOCK

Dining chairs; bar and counter stools; lounge chairs; outdoor seating; occasional tables.
